Presentation Title: Safety Performance of Shoulder Rumble Strips on Alaskan Highways
Presented By: Randy Kinney, P.E., PTOE
Randy gave a well informed presentation on the many benefits and crash reduction costs to having rumble strips in Alaska.  He went over HSIP projects and looked at the crash reduction factor, injury and fatality reduction, literature reviews, and the types of rumble strips used.  Randy explained how rumble strips were evaluated through the United States to better understand their benefits and how they reduced the crash rate.  In conclusion, there was a 20% reduction on two lane roads but no reductions for four lane roads.
